We
manufacture single screw and twin screw Extruder
for processing food cereals. The chief application
for these Extruders have been for Pre-Gelatinized
Starch and for the preparation of pellets (half
products/3G pellets) used for expanded Snack food.
The Extruder works using the heat from electric
heaters round the barrel and the mechanical work
provided by the rotating screw(s) to compact &
cook the starch, flour pre-mixed with moisture
and ingredients. Essentially, a cooking extruder
is provided with specially designed screw(s) with
a cooking and forming zone. The cooking zone compacts
and cooks the mass to desired degree and the forming
zone functions as a cooling zone, to control the
viscosity of dough to level required for proper
extrusion through the die.
In the process of producing Pre-Gelatinized Starch
(PGS), a single screw Extruder or Twin screw Extruder
is used to cook the starch, pre-mixed with moisture
and other ingredients, if any, to extrude the
semi-cooked dough through a suitably shaped die
opening. The extruded dough is continuously cut
by a die/face cutter and is subsequently pulverized
to fine powder for use by other industries.
In production of pellets for Expanded Snack food,
the flour (rice, maize, potato, wheat or soya
flour) is pre-mixed with moisture, shortening
and processing aid, etc. and cooked inside the
extruder and extruded out of suitably shaped opening,
continuously cut at die face by die/face cutter
and dried for safe handling & packing. The
pellets are usually heated in oil or hot air,
afterwards, for complete expansion and final consumption.
Before feeding the raw-materials into the Extruder,
it is desirable to have a pre conditioner chamber
which can consist of single or two agitating shafts
with steam injection arrangement to ensure that
the ingredients are not only pre-heated by steam,
but also to ensure complete hydration of raw-material
ingredients with water for proper cooking in the
Extruder.
High shear cooking extruder (single or twin screw)
can be sued for producing direct expanded or 2G
snack food. In such machine the product made from
food cereal is cooked inside the machine by application
of high shear and heat with moisture and product
expands immediately as it comes out of die, and
cut by suitable cutter at the die, as steam flashes
out of product.
